FAQ
Welcome to Keystone, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions, and more importantly, our should be asked questions
What if I'm nervous for those big cracking sounds?
Chiropractic adjustments AKA the cracking noise can be an unusual sound and feeling for your first time.
If you are uncomfortable or nervous about any part of your treatment just let your practitioner know so that they can modify the treatment they give to you.
You should never be forced into a treatment you are not comfortable with.
What should I wear to appointments?
The best outfit to wear to appointments is light, coverable and moveable clothing such as active wear.
Items like tights/leggings and sports shorts are great as you feel comfortable, you can easily move around, and we can access the body to provide treatment (E.g massage).
Wearing items such as work trousers and jeans will make it difficult to get your body moving and for you be to be comfortable on the treatment table.
For us to treat the whole body, we do provide treatment gowns that allow us to access your back and shoulders all while keeping you covered up and comfortable
What is Chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care can help improve quality of life through reducing pain and increasing mobility in patients.
Your treatment may include:
Adjustments to the joints and muscles - This treatment helps to restore optimal biomechanics and reduce the load on joints, reducing wear and tear, and the risk of recurring injuries and degenerative changes.
Soft tissue work to relieve muscle stress.
Our staff can also help improve your treatment outcomes by working with you to find ways for you to continue to strengthen and improve at home.
This can include:
Finding the triggers and aggravating factors which are contributing to your symptoms.
Working out strategies to avoid or minimise these triggers.
Providing stretches and exercises so you can continue to work on your issues at home

What should I expect for my first appointment?

This will include lots of questions about your health and lifestyle which are designed to let our chiropractor tailor your treatment to suit your needs and address your issues in a comprehensive way.

Do I need a referral from my GP?
You do not need a referral from a GP to see a chiropractor.
Does health insurance cover my appointments?
All health insurance policies are different.
If you are unsure that your private health insurance will cover your chiropractic consult it is best to call your provider before your appointment to confirm you have chiropractic cover in your policy.
Does Medicare cover chiropractic appointments?
Medicare does not provide rebates on chiropractic appointments unless you have an Enhanced Care Plan (EPC) from your General Practitioner.
EPC’s allow 5 subsidised visits under the Medicare system which can be spread across multiple health professions (E.g. 3 Chiropractic visits and 2 Physiotherapy visits or all 5 visits on Chiropractic).
These allocations need to be determined with your GP at the time no consult to be placed on your EPC form.
How many appointments will I need?
How many appointments you need will be determined from the nature of your condition.
Some conditions are more likely to resolve quickly whereas others can take more time for the body to heal.
Other factors determining number of visits include how long you have had the issue (E.g., Have you been suffering with this pain for 10 years, or has it been there for 1 week?).
Is it safe to see a chiropractor while pregnant?
Yes, chiropractic is a safe and commonly sought after health modality for women during their pregnancy journey.
Is chiropractic safe for children?
Yes, chiropractic is safe for children! Many children suffer injuries playing at school and home and from playing sport. Chiropractic is a safe option for growing bodies.
How are chiropractors educated?
In Australia, to become a chiropractor you must complete 5 years of University education.
This includes a chiropractic specific 3 year Bachelor degree followed by a 2 year Masters degree with a 12 month placement in a student clinic under the supervision of experienced chiropractic practitioner and academics.
Am I too old for chiropractic?
No one is too old for chiropractic care! All manual therapies and chiropractic techniques can be modified to be gentle on older bodies.
Sports Injuries - Do I use ice or heat?
Ice or Heat?
There is so much conflicting information, and it can be very confusing.
As a basic rule:
Ice is used when an injury is acute to reduce inflammation.
Heat is used to relax muscles, promote blood flow, and it feels good.
Ice constricts the blood vessels to reduce blood flow and reduce excessive inflammation. This is beneficial immediately after an injury, or if you have overdone things and have micro-trauma to a joint or muscle. It helps to reduce swelling and bruising.
Heat relaxes the blood vessels to improve blood flow. This increased blood flow brings nutrients to the tissues and allows the lymphatic drainage to take toxins away to allow healing to take place.
Where does the name Keystone come from?
The Keystone is the stone at the centre of the arch which supports the curve of the arch and provides strength and stability to the arch.
At Keystone, our unique blend of Chiropractic, muscle releases and mobilisations provides your body with the support it needs to function at its best.
We hope this helps.
