Tai Chi and Qigong - Your Journey to better Health
Originating in ancient China, Tai Chi and Qigong are internal arts that integrate the mind and body, promoting physical and mental well-being and harmony. There are many styles and forms of Tai Chi and Qigong but they all share the same essential principles including fluidity of movement, control of breathing and mental concentration.
Tai chi has been shown to improve muscle strength, balance, flexibility and fitness which in turn can relieve joint pain, prevent falls, and enhance vitality, posture and immunity. Scientific studies have shown that Tai Chi can even improve and possibly help prevent chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart disease and diabetes.
Qigong is particularly beneficial for stress reduction as it improves heart and lung capacity, increases blood circulation and metabolism, and heals and relaxes. It does this by combining meditation, movement and breathing.
Tai Chi is an excellent form of meditation, relieving stress and anxiety, and boosting cognitive function. It also increases balance, coordination, strength, and agility, and can help to relieve symptoms of several chronic diseases like diabetes, arthritis and osteoporosis.
Best of all though Tai Chi and Qigong are fun and can be learnt and enjoyed by everyone. They can be done standing or seated. Movements can be modified to ensure physical comfort. The more you learn, the more you improve and you can keep on learning and improving for the rest of your life. There is no hurry in Tai Chi! It’s a great, relaxed and social way to start your journey to better health.
All the movements can be scaled according to skill and movement level (it can be done seated!) making it a perfect exercise for everyone to enjoy.
