What is Jaw and Sinus Pain?

When we are stressed and anxious it is common to hold tension in our jaw and clench our teeth which can cause pain. The trigeminal and facial nerves pass through this region and can become inflamed causing muscle spasms and headaches. This can reduce lymphatic flow and cause a build up of pressure in the sinuses.

When fluid builds up and is trapped in the sinuses it forms the perfect breading ground for bacteria and increases the risk of sinus infections. This creates more inflammation and a vicious cycle of recurring infections and pain. Chiropractic can help to break this cycle.

Gentle fascia and muscle releases help to improve the lymphatic drainage and reduce the pressure in the sinuses. This helps to elevate the pain and restore normal function. Sinus pain can range from occasional discomfort, pressure or fullness in the ears, to constant deep aching or sharp pain. It can make it hard to focus and concentrate on your daily activities and can interfere with your sleep.

How can Keystone help?

At Keystone Chiropractic & Yoga, our chiropractors take a holistic approach to Jaw and Sinus pain, we assess the whole body to look for the underlying issues rather than just treating symptoms.

There are many causes of Jaw and Sinus Pain and an accurate diagnosis is important to make sure your treatment assesses these underlying issues. Your initial appointment will include a review of what has lead up to your Pain and a physical examination to assess both the underlying problem and the compensatory stresses and strains this has caused.

For any treatment to be effective both the cause and compensatory issues need to be addressed. We will work with you to provide a personalised treatment plan to help you get back to doing all the things you love as quickly as possible.

Your treatment will be aimed to restore balance and mobility to your body. It will include a combination of soft tissue releases and mobilisations, chiropractic adjustments (where appropriate), and exercises and stretches to correct postural imbalances and help prevent future episodes of pain.

We also have yoga and tai chi classes to improve flexibility and fitness in the long term.
